Funny things

Kees Sokkenstopper and Gans Malta

The 2500th issue (weekly 36 of 2000) has a special story. Donald and the nephews go searching for a copy of the first weekly issue. They meet two comic shop owners: Kees Sokkenstopper and Gans Malta. These characters are clearly based on the owners of the two oldest comic shops in Holland: Kees Kousemaker (Lambiek) an Hans Matla (Panda, stopped a few years ago, after 25 years).

Kees Sokkenstopper, Gans Malta.
In the 2nd panel, Gans Malta says: "I have a copy [of the first issue] in my vault! You can have a brief look, but that'll cost you 100 quid!"

Funny things

A minister as Disney writer

For a debate, Minister of finances Zalm made his own version of a Scrooge comic story. In that story he compared himself to Uncle Scrooge, prime minister Kok became Donald, and the other ministers the Beagle Boys (who were after Scrooge Zalm's money)...

From the newspaper (Haagsche Courant) of March 1, 2000.

Personal memories

Mery Krismus an a hapi neu yeer!

In the year 2000, at the real ending of the 2nd millennium A.D., I sent this Christmas card to my relatives and friends.
Don Rosa drew it on my directions. The English version is the original; I pasted the Dutch text in using a computer.
